As you experienced, it seems that version 1.0 does not support FaceTime (and many other apps).

The EOS webcam utility is not working after upgrading to Big Sur. The option to select the EOS utiltiy as a webcam is not a selectable option when trying to select a webcam. When is an update expected?

So. The app is working well with my Rebel SL3, but there is a 250ms delay with audio from my usb mic.  I've got a work around with OBS by delaying audio by 250ms, but does anyone have a solution without using OBS as the go between?

Are there plans to support Mac OS Monterey? If so, what's the ETA? The Webcam Utility isn't working with my new MBP.

I recently installed macOS Monterey (12.0.1) so wanted to test if my EOS RP would still work as a webcam using Canon's EOS Webcam Utility. A quick test indicated that indeed it does. I tested the webcam capability with the latest Zoom and Skype apps for macOS as well as Google Meet via the Chrome browser. All worked well, although I only ran each test for a few minutes.

Dear Canon Team,

I am not exactly sure whether this has been raised already. Just a very simple question:

why don't you just make the EOS Webcam Untiliy open source?

I am 100% certain that there is quite a number of developers out there which could help to make this code more robust, less impacted by other apps (such as Google Drive, etc.) and more versatile. This could be beneficial not only for your customer base but also for your teams as well.

Thanks for considering.

Is the 30 minute restart intentional (e.g. to prevent overheat)? The beta (which I fortunately still have handy) doesn't restart every 30 minutes.

Using OSX and 70D

It's super annoying and bad experience when doing public livestreaming

Hello Canon, I am so surprised you do not provide webcam utility for all your cinema cameras, that should have been first before slrs. In fact, you should just have it acrosss all your cameras including the all the previous and legacy models. You're selection is terrible, period.

M1 ProMax *macOS* Monterey camera 7D

Zoom cannot detect the 7D as a webcam when trying to select it from video options. Is there compatibility issues with current software with the current macOS?

Hi, Raymon Faylona!  Here's the word from our technicians:

Currently, Canon has not released a version of EOS Webcam Utility that would be compatible with macOS v12. You may attempt to download the version of EOS Webcam Utility for macOS v10.15 to see if it will install on your computer and to see if your videoconferencing software will recognize your EOS 7D when selecting “EOS Webcam Utility” as the video source within the videoconferencing software.

In case they your EOS 7D is not recognized and cannot be used as a webcam, then we would recommend to occasionally check the software download page to see when updates do become available. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Canon’s EOS webcam utility

it’s great!
tremendous video quality!

I tried it with zoom on my macOS Version 11.6. With Safari. Perfect!
I was looking for a USB webcam but thought why cannot I use my Canon EOS Rebel SL1? It has great video quality.
Canon is absolutely brilliant for developing the software.

three things:
trying to register for Canon’s webcam forum, I was caught in captcha hell. I had to enter my password twice. The two passwords didn’t match but I didn’t notice my mistake. I did a hundred captcha’s! Finally I saw my mistake.
I took the strap off of my Canon EOS Rebel. It was just inviting a disaster.
on the Mac, where is the EOS Webcam Utility? In the Applications folder, there’s a directory EOS Webcam Utility and in it there’s Uninstaller.app. I’m guessing it’s also the utility?

Canon’s EOS webcam utility

in use I found that the original batteries ran out after 30 minutes. They're eight years old. I'm guessing the original batteries, fully charged hold only 70% of their original charge so I bought new batteries. BM 7.2 V 1150mAh. They're great! The new batteries effectively hold twice the charge.

in use, I mount my Canon EOS Rebel SL1 on a mini tripod. On the tripod, it's awkward to throw in a fresh battery. It takes me two minutes to change the battery. I host the community association meetings on zoom but I'll have to ask someone else to chair the meetings while I change the batteries.

and one other thing. When I turn the Canon SL1 off and back on, the Apple Photos application pops up which is kind of distracting.

Same issue with ON/OFF shutter just before the 30 min. mark. This is due to the time limitation in Canon's onboard firmware with EOS. I don't know if it exists in other series, but it is not difficult to fix. This issue may be more of a safety feature from Canon, regarding the sustained, long-term opening of the shutter, rather than just a limitation of the firmware, but I agree with everyone here - leave it up to the pros whether we need it or not. Just give it to us. 😉

Good Morning,

I was curious if anyone has run into the connectivity issue while streaming zoom? Specifically the new update that zoom has been requesting for a couple months. I livestream events with the Canon RP, where I am directly plugged into my MacBook Pro and have never had issues after installing the canon software and utilizing zoom. Now if I update zoom to the latest software it will not recognize my camera. Will Canon be releasing a new software? I have uninstall zoom and reinstall to the old app in order to get my camera to work. Thoughts? Thank you!
