Hi All, Just yesterday my EPH-180 stopped connecting (as normal) with my Win 11 Desktop.
INSTEAD, when turned on, it opened a MS application, which is totally unacceptable to me for my use. I thought MS had stuck something in there they were trying to SELL, but not sure.
So, I connected my camera to my wife's Win10 Desktop and it opened as it always has.
Is my device a "plug & play"? Or did it require "installation of some software" when I installed it a long, long time ago. Fron what I can find out, no software is included, but it sure isn't working on my Win 11 Desktop.
I'm trying to find what might be the problem within my computer, but it checks out fine with McAfee.
Any help will be greatly appreciated! The MS software works, but it's AWFUL. AND it downloads ever pic on the camera, starting at the oldest first and I have to wait in order to get to the image I want to work with.

Welcome.
Have you recently upgraded your OS from Windows 10 to Windows 11? If so, then you may need to remove all Canon apps and reinstall them.
The Canon apps rely on a Windows Service called the EOS Utility Launcher, which runs in the background. If Windows ever asks you what to do when it detects your camera, select the option to take no action.
If you have selected a different option, then you should reset it. Selecting the “take no action” option will allow the background service to connect to the camera.
The background service should have an icon in the System Tray. By right clicking on it you can select what action should be taken when a camera is detected.
BTW, if you connect a camera to a USB port and don’t turn it on, nothing is what should happen.

You can tell Windows what app to open when a action or device Is performed or connected.
To control the default behavior when a device is connected, look for a feature called "Autoplay".
To change the default app associated with an action, see the link below.

Thanks a lot for your reply.
However, the only thing that opens when the camera gets plugged in is this:
The box on the right doesn't pop up asking "how it should be used". Nothing else pops up, either.
I'm thinking a problem in my system somewhere, because there is another program I use that doesn't stay OPEN on the page as it should and I have to go to the taskbar and re-open it in order to copy/save the image I just cut to do that.
I'm still working on the problem because the way it should work is so very simple and quick and is perfect for my use of the camera. (Take a pic, edit it, save it and use it for my online sales).

BTW - When the camera is plugged in and not ON, nothing happens!!
When I click on the camera icon, I get an error saying "Can't find camera".
As you know, this is an OLD camera. I have used it for YEARS with ZERO problems.

What opened before you started getting this new window? What app, if any, are you expecting to open?

ALL IS WELL!! Updated Win11 and made a few changes and it is back to normal. Thanks to all who replied.
