Image Transfer Utility 2 Won't Start

Image Transfer Utility 2 Won't Start when I click on it, I have gone to file location and I have tried running as an administrator and have had no luck. (Windows 10) I am not interested in using a card reader because my hands have been messed up in the past and the cards can be hard to handle for me and an incredible problem to pick up if they hit the floor, so please do not make that suggestion and I do not have a USB port that I can find (Canon M50) but it does have a protective skin on it and with my hands it was rather hard for me to get it on so I do not want to remove it. Anyone happen to have a clue how to get the program running? Last modified 3/25/21 I have not been able to use the program much, I have been taking care of my girlfriend so I have no bee able to take picture but she passed away on Tuesday and this morning I snapped a few photos. I feel guilty about being able to take photos again so please no lectures about how I sound horrible for saying that, I already feel horrible enough.

Greetings Far-Out-Dude Rising Star, and I'm sorry to hear about your loss.

With the Image Transfer Utility, you have performed some of the troubleshooting steps that we would have suggested. I do show that there is a more recent version of the software for Windows 10 that was released on 09/20/2023. Let's go ahead and uninstall the version that is installed on your computer and download the latest version, Image Transfer Utility 2.2.30 for Windows, from the product support page of the EOS M50 camera to see if this helps resolve the issue:

https://www.usa.canon.com/support/p/eos-m50

I would also check to see if there may be any security software or security settings that may be preventing the software from opening on your computer.

First and foremost, I am so sorry for your girlfriend's passing.  I have been down that road myself, and I can totally empathize with you - the need to go and do something that puts one 'in the moment' to relieve the stress, such as taking a photograph, is something I can also relate to. It's important for your own mental health, and it's perfectly reasonable so you have no reason to reproach yourself.

I wish I could solve your issue but I don't have an M50.  When I get back home I will try to emulate the issue on one of my M5's, which I hope will work fine, and I also have a Windows 10 machine to make it as close as possible to your configuration.

Hang in there...

Hi again. I just checked and it will not run on any of my cameras.  Really sorry, but there are folks here with similar units to you who will hopefully come to the party.

Thank you for the kind words and for trying to help.

I did something kind of stupid and good at the same time, I made what my friend called it as a "Grief purchase" I bought a R5 Mark II it will take me forever to pay it off though. Dumb me forgot to buy cards for it though so I did that a bit ago. I have not taken it out of the delivery package. I was going to get one anyway but had intended to wait until March.

This was her, the most beautiful woman I have ever know, I only wish she realized what a wonderful woman she was.

I absolutely feel for you... After four years, I miss my late partner every day, and yes, I always live with regret to have done more for her - it's called survivor's guilt: I understand what it is, but that doesn't make it go away.   I am here for you.  If you want to take privately, just PM me and I'll respond.

The 'grief purchase' is understandable - people are driven more by emotion than logic, especially when we are under extreme stress and our Limbic (survival) brain overrides the Neocortex (higher logic).  If the package is not opened up, can you return it, and maybe explain the circumstances by talking to Canon directly?  I would hope they would show some compassion here: heaven knows, I bet they will have no problem selling it.

Thank you much, I may well do that. I think I will keep it, it was bought through B&H here is the states that is a major company, I have bought all my gear through them, I like to buy all my stuff through one company that way if something goes wrong they can't play the pass the buck game. Canon does not accept the credit form I used to buy it.
