Firmware & Software Fix Request for Canon R6 Tethering Issues

Dear Canon Team,

I have been a long-time Canon user and currently work with the Canon R6 in a professional workflow that relies heavily on tethering to Capture One. Unfortunately, I have encountered several frustrating issues that significantly hinder efficiency:

  1. Canon Software Blocks Tethering to Capture One

    • When attempting to connect my R6 to Capture One, I receive an error message on the camera.
    • The only workaround is removing the storage card, which is unacceptable since having backup storage on the card is a necessary part of a professional workflow.
    • Will Canon be addressing this issue with a firmware update?
  2. Canon Software Conflict on macOS/Windows

    • Upon uninstalling all Canon software, Capture One tethers flawlessly. This suggests a conflict with Canon’s own software preventing proper third-party integration.
    • Additionally, whenever I connect my R6 to a computer, I am constantly prompted to install Canon software—even if it is already installed. Instead of updating the current installation, it creates multiple duplicate copies of the same software.

This workflow disruption is frustrating, and I would like to know:

  • Does Canon plan to address these tethering issues with a firmware update?
  • Will there be a fix for Canon software redundancies that interfere with Capture One?

Canon has long been a leader in professional imaging solutions, but these issues are forcing users to consider alternative brands that provide seamless tethering without unnecessary restrictions. I look forward to your response and hope a solution is in development.

Sincerely,

Jiro Preston

If Canon does not meet your needs, I suggest you look elsewhere.

Anyway, to have your issues heard, follow the procedure I outlined in your other post.

@usyakuza,

Its important you understand that Canon is not responsible for ensuring compatibility or performance with 3rd party accessories, software or anything they didn't manufacture or develop.  You are welcome to use your Canon gear with 3rd party accessories and software, but Canon is not responsible for ensuring they work together or how they perform.

You can submit feedback, make requests, etc, but ultimately, its the responsibility of the 3rd party to ensure their products work with your device.
