Hi everyone!
I have Canon r5 mark ii with rf 5.2mm stereo 3d 180 lens, Battery cooling grip, 2TB CFexpress B card, latest EOS VR Utility with a paid 1 year subscription.
My pc: RTX5090 GPU, Intel ultra 285K CPU, Gen5 2TB Samsung 9100 ssd for Drive C, 32GB ddr5 ram, Windows 11 Pro OS.
I recorded a live music performance and got a CRM Raw light 8k file 1.15TB in size. Lol and its only 23.97fps, 60fps wouldn't fit in the biggest flash card that my camera supports unfortunately. I wish there was an option to record straight to an 8TB usb-c ssd like i can with my Black Magic camera..
Few questions:
1. The file itself is on external SDD and exported to another external 14TB drive. When exporting the file in EOS VR utility it kills the free space on drive C and hangs up "frozen progress bar" when almost done exporting, probably temp files or something like that. How do i check the temp folder? How can i change the temp folder location to maybe a bigger drive?
2. There are few export options, but 2 of them are only 8bit 4.2.0 and the other 2 are DMX 10 and 16 bit ( non-compressed and would generate probably even bigger file. So I ended up choosing H265 4.4.4 10bit. How larger would the converted file size be than my current 1.15TB CRM 8k raw light file size?
3. Each time i try to convert the file it takes 4 and a half hours! But when checking for PC bottle necks, there are none! Nothing is used more than 35%. (see screenshots of task manager). How do i utilize all of my system resources so the task can be done in less time??
Thank you in advance!

Hi moshe360,
The C drive file you are seeing when you start exporting is likely the temp file while the software is working on processing the file. There isn't a way to control where the temp file will show. Typically it will be on the same drive the software is installed on. You could try installing the EOS VR Utility on the drive you intend to export to, but sometimes the software runs more slowly if it isn't on the main drive.
There isn't a good way to estimate how much larger a converted DMX 10 file would be, because the size of the converted file varies from recording to recording. If the converted DMX 10 file would be too large for the drive you are exporting to the computer should give an error message that the file can't be saved.
I understand your concern with how long the conversion is going to take. With file as large as yours we would expect the export to take awhile. One thing you could try to help make the export go more quickly would be to set your GPU as the processor in the software. To do that go into the Tools menu in the EOS VR Utility, select the Processor option, and select the name of your GPU.

It is set on my RTX5090..
it just looks like Canon is the only company that charges subscription for people to be able to use their unique 3d 180 lens (no one does it), for a software that is so poorly designed that I wouldn’t even use it for free it there was an alternative. Not optimized for the current day and age hardware, lacking any desirable functions: I would expect canon to have an option of exporting the video file ready for YouTube with the ability to choose from canon presets like on the camera itself. Since the moment I attach RF 5.2mm 3d 180 lens, my R5 mark ii camera disables any option to straight shoot an HDR video, only Raw lite.. So I can understand the cameras internal GPU limitations, but they should give that option at least here, since they charge subscription fees. Otherwise after I wait 5 hours for rendering into an equirectangular format ( canon default 3d 180 format is useless), then I must do color grading for HDR PQ, export again and then add YouTube meta injection for the video to be normally visible on YouTube.. what a shame.. At least I didn’t pay for these lens $2100 but got it brand new from a camera store for $800 because they got rid of these lens to clear their stock. lol now I know why.
But thank you for your answer, I appreciate it.
