EOS VR Utility - Stills - Why not RAW?

dd_chroma
Enthusiast

This is a feature request for EOS VR to support RAW stills.

Real Scenario: Working on a night photography project where I had to shoot RAW. Had the VR lens with me so thought I'd use it as well. Remembered to shoot RAW ST video now that I have a big enough card.

Thought I'd captured some VR stills. But in camera mode was already shooting RAW.

Open EOS VR Utility - but it can't detect RAW stills.

So I must remember to shoot RAW (or MP4) video but also remember that I can't shoot RAW stills.

From a user experience design point of view, having to switch contexts and realise that you can't shoot RAW for VR stills is challenging in a real world environment. You aren't thinking about downstream file formats.

I have some interesting night VR to shots to process but they now can't be processed because they are using the best quality image that I can produce.

The only thing I can think of now is to write a tool to convert the RAW to JPEG and add my own version of the metadata required.

However, EOS VR Utility should be doing this for me. I see no technical reason why RAW can be an input format for Stills.
