EOS Utility won't fully launch for remote shooting on macOS v15.5

What is up with EOS Utility 3 and Mac OS 15.5? I see lots of people posting problems with it but no solutions that have worked for me. I have a MacBook Pro M3 running OS 15.5 and an R7 with Firmware 1.6.0. I downloaded DPP 4.17.30. When trying to shoot remote, it said I need EOS Utility. After installing it, it doesn't even open all the way. Spinning beachball for a bit and I have to force quit it. If I try to connect remote from DPP after launching EOS Utility, it just tells me that EOS Utility isn't ready and then it hangs up too and has to be force quit. I've rebooted several times and reloaded EOS Utility more times than I can count. Even downloaded it from different sites but get the same problem every time. Help! So frustrated.

Greetings spitfirejd.

I'm sorry to hear about the frustration you are going through when trying to use the EOS Utility 3 (EU3) application. The software application does allow remote shooting without the need of using Digitial Photo Professional. Let's troubleshoot this application launching issue to see if we can get it resolved.

I'm unsure of which steps you took to connect the camera to your computer and launching the EU3 application, but let's try launching the application first before connecting the camera to the computer. Let's navigate to the Canon Utilities folder in Finder and then open the EU folder. Within this folder, we should see the EU3 folder along with the executable file inside of it. Open EU3 and let's see if it comes up for us.

If it does, you may notice limited functionality but that is because the camera is not yet connected. Once the application opens, let's then connect the EOS R7 camera to the computer with a USB cable and power the camera on. EU3 should be able to recognize the camera and provide us with access to all of its functions like remote shooting.

Also, one thing to check for is to see what function the USB terminal is set to on the camera. Please refer to the following link to view the different options available. We would need to ensure that the camera is set to "Photo Import/Remote Control".

Canon : Product Manual : EOS R7 : App Selection for USB Connections (start.canon)

Thank you for the response. EU3 doesn't fully open whether I have the camera connected or not. I can see on the dock that there's a dot like it opened, and I get an icon in the menu bar, but there are no menus or windows that open up. If I hover my mouse over the icon on the menu bar, all I get is a spinning beachball and I have to force quit EU3.  The camera does see my laptop when I connect it because the rear screen shows an icon of a laptop and the camera functions are not available. I can't connect to the camera from the laptop however, because of EU3 not running.

Problem solved! Called Canon tech support and discovered their website was detecting my OS incorrectly and was giving me an old version of EU3 to download. Once we figured this out, I was able to download EU 3.19.0 and it now works as it should.

I'm having the same issue and downloading the software for Mac OS 15.5, not the canon website's detection of Catalina.  Which did you download?  Do you have a link to share?  This is so frustrating!

Here you go mate. Select Mac, os15.5 and Eos Utility 3.19.0

Ah, thank you, but I see the problem here, there is no option for Sequoia 15.5.  Canon, are you out there? Please help. Screenshot 2025-06-04 at 6.38.22 PM.png

You still need EU 3.19.0 and the link should take you to it. It’s for OS 15.X. It doesn’t matter if you have 15.1 or 15.5.

Thank you, yes, this is exactly what I downloaded and it doesn’t work. I tried multiple times. Come on Canon, get it together!

Thanks for the response!
