I got it the other day; works great!

Thank you for replying to my original post. I became aware of the new update a few days ago and have used it. Better late than never!!

After upgrading to Sequoia, I encountered issues using EOS Utility 2 just spinning the wheel. On Big Sur when rotating the image in EOS Utility 2 things got wonky. After getting Sequoia set up the way I wanted and liking it, I decided rather than going through the trouble to downgrade my Mac OS, I downloaded Oracle VirtualBox, which is free, and acquired a free copy of Windows XP from Internet Archive. This lightweight OS requires minimal resources—about 10GB for storage and 512MB to 1GB for RAM. Now, I can tether my 5D2 by booting VirtualBox, activating the USB, and it works well. The registry edit trick for the EOS Utility 2 upgrade didn't work for me, but I had success with the full installer named ksd290a_installer from Canon - I forget what it was called but when browsing downloads for say the 5d2 with Windows XP 32 bit selected it was a full installer about 280mb in size if I recall. I opted not to upgrade to the latest version after using the full installer as it wasn't needed. You will need a serial number for this download from canon, so if yours is rubbed off like mine, just go to eBay and browse pictures of for sale 5d2's.

  1. Download Oracle VirtualBox (it's free)

  2. Download an .iso of Windows XP and a Product Key from Internet Archive or use an old copy you have

  3. Install XP in the virtualbox, only need maybe 10g storage and 512MB to 1g RAM.

  4. Go to Devices and insert Guest Additions CD

  5. Browse in windows to D drive or whatever drive the guest additions has been loaded on and double click guest additions installer

  6. go to Devices -> Drag and Drop and select Bidirectional

Now you can drag over downloaded files such as winzip and KSD290a_installer and install them. If you want to share your network card and download in XP, that is an option too.

7. Go to devices -> USB and checkmark your canon, then it will be recognized by XP. In order for canon to be seen for this step it needs to be turned on and plugged in.

8. Launch EOS Utility 2 and enjoy

There now is a proper update!

Thanks, I was replying to justin5billion as some of our old cameras such as the 5D Mark II do not work with version 3, only version 2.
