What is the difference between the two file name tokens of sequential number vs image number?

Sequential number is the number during that connection session. Image number is the camera image number.

If your camera writes image IMG_1234.CR3 then the 1234 is the image number. But if you use sequential number it will ignore the 1234 and use a sequential number based on how many images have been transferred.

Thank you for the info.

Is there a way to reset the sequential number for each folder?  I create folders by year_mm_dd.  Currently the sequential number carries across folders.

regards, mark

Assuming you want something like:

2025_12_03 as the folder with IMG_0001, IMG_0002 and so on followed by 2025_12_04 with IMG_0001 and onwards again, then no this is not possible with EOS Utility unless you download only the images taken on one date, then start again for the next date after reconnecting the camera or reseting the sequential number.

For me, I'd simply transfer the images with the original camera image number and then batch rename the files in the various dated folders. I use a Mac so the OS has a rename function than can be set to rename a whole folder of files with a sequential number if needed.
