EOS Utility 3 Issues with External Hard Drive and Sequoia Update

Hello!

I've recently updated to macOS Sequoia and now my EOS Utility 3 is giving me errors when trying to Live View and save images to my external hard drive. It works fine if it saves to a folder local on the computer. Error images attached.

I have plenty of space on my computer and external hard drive. I also updated to the latest version of EOS Utility 3, but that hasn't solved the problem. I've restarted my computer, tried other versions, changed disk permissions and nothing has worked.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately I cannot test this (no longer have my 5D IV) and this software on macOS Sequoia (15.4) launches, but states my camera (R5 Mark II) isn't recognized.

With that said, a guess is that this may be related to Privacy & Security settings:

  • Launch System Settings
  • Select the Privacy & Security category
  • In the right-hand list, find and the click on Files & Folders
  • See if EOS Utility 3 is in that list.  If it is, click on the ">" next to it which will reveal details.  Ensure that "Removable Volumes" is enabled.
  • If you don't find that item in the list, you can also try going back to Privacy & Settings, then clicking on the Full Disk Access item and see if that utility is listed there.  If so, ensure it's item is enabled.  If not, follow these steps:
    1. Click on the "+" icon.  You'll be challenged with your Mac account's password.
    2. In the open panel, just Cancel (seems to be a bug in macOS currently)
    3. Click on the "+" icon again.  This time in the open panel, navigate to where you have EOS Utility 3 installed and select/open it.  It will then be added to the list and enabled to have full disk access (which should cover external volumes).

Hi Ricky! Really appreciate your help here.

Unfortunately, I figured the same and did both toggle "Removable Volumes" and gave it full disk access... neither has solved the issue. This one has stumped me!

Is the external drive a network connection or a USB connection?  I believe the EOS Utility has always been limited to local storage only when downloading files from the camera.  I suspect this may also apply to Live View.

It’s USB! Never had any issues with it working before, just conveniently after I updated to Sequoia :’)
