EOS R7 firmware update file size is wrong

Terryw1

Hi all,

Not having done a software update before I've read up on the procedure and one article mentioned checking the file size before proceeding.   I understand from the Canon website that the most recent update should be 73,665 KB but after downloading it on my desktop (running Windows 10, 64 bit) the EOSR7171.FIR file size is 71,165 KB.  Should I be worried that something may have gone wrong during download and my download is missing something or is it ok to proceed?

Thanks for your help.

Terry.

File sizes are all over the place. I am not sure where you got the 73.665 MB number, but the website says:

Untitled.jpg

Says 71.94 MB.

When I download it, the .zip is 73.665 MB and it says the contained file (uncompressed) is 71.078 MB, but when I unzip it it says: 72.782 MB. So I would not worry about it.

I thought they provided a checksum, but I don't see it.

Neither number you posted seems to jive with what I see in the description on the support site.

Thanks for all your replies.  Not sure now where I got the size from but will start from scratch, download the update again from Canon and install it.

Thanks again for your help

Terry

Make sure to get it from an official Canon source. Rather than search for the update from google, go to Canon USA and drill down.

Thanks kvbarkley.  Yes, went direct to Canon and although the file size was still slightly different from their  instructions it all loaded OK and camera working.   Had to do a few extra steps on my computer to extract the update to load it onto the card and then had a moment of panic towards the end of the update.   I tried to select OK by tapping the touch screen but of course nothing happened.  I then used the rocker button to select OK, pressed SET and the update started much to my relief.  Glad Canon's instructions were fairly easy to follow for those of us that aren't very computer savy!  I did have to Google what is a root directory so have even learnt a bit of computer lingo along the way 🙂
