Hi there-
I'm facing a dilemma.
I use an R5 mirrorless, and upgraded to a MacBook a few months ago to bring more efficiency to my shooting and editing workflow. Unfortunately, Canon has set me back by not having a driver available for my R5 to connect directly with my Macbok's Sequoia IOS. I also used Capture One in order to shoot tethered. Without this driver, I can no longer to this.
My workaround became to spend another $100 for a card reader (that overheats) in order to transfer my images over.
Has Canon issued an ETA for this driver? Will this be an issue every time Apple offers an IOS update? The Sonoma alternative you offer in your community chat does not work. I've been a longtime loyal Canon customer, and own two R5 bodies with several lenses, but I am frustrated with this setback. Should I be looking at other camera alternatives if this will become a recurrent issue with IOS updates? I've spoken with your customer service representative twice, and as of my last call, they don't have an answer.
Thank you in advance for any information you can provide.

What do you want to do?
If you just want to get your images off the camera, Image Capture should suffice.

Hi there! Thanks for responding.
I'd like to transfer my images by plugging my camera in to my Macbook (without having to remove my CFExpress card and loading it to my card reader), and transfer them to a folder of choice for culling before uploading to Lightroom. Also, would like to be able to do this if I'm traveling and don't have reliable internet access. Image capture allows me to see the images, and has been spotty in downloads, while defaulting to opening them in Lightroom, which is reliant on wifi.
I'd like to also be able to tether to Capture One and/or Evoto during a photoshoot. Since the Mac doesn't recognize the R5 due to the missing driver, it won't allow me to do either. I feel like I spent money on these softwares and not able to use them as intended.
I'm open to suggestion as I'm new to the MacBook world.

I am not sure what you mean when you say "spotty in downloads", that is usually the fault of the cable. Also make sure wifi is off on the camera, wifi and usb cabled connections are not compatible.

Thanks! I'll try that.

I changed the cable, and turned off wifi on the camera.
It now allows the pic to download, but still defaults to LR. My other choices for transfer do not include a hard drive folder but other apps. Capture One still doesn't recognize the camera. Error message reads "no camera available". Thanks again for trying to help me.

"but still defaults to LR."
That is a setting in Image Capture
