EOS Digital Solutions vs EOS Utility SW for 5D mkiv?

Hi,

I am brand new to photography and just picked up a used 5D MkIV.  It came with an EOS Digital Solution Disk ver 32.9 and a EOS digital  SW instruction manual CD's.  I see that Canon also has an EOS Utility SW available for download.  I was just wondering if the EOS Utility SW is just a newer version of the EOS Digital Solutions SW or do I need both of them loaded on my computer?

Thanks Ricky!  I didn't really have a specific need identified and it sounds like I don't really need the Canon specific SW on the computer.  I have the CameraConnect App already loaded as I can see a need for that.  I've seen the Lightroom SW mentioned before and will look into getting that for image manipulation.

I don't use either of those software items with my 5D IV.

For syncing photos to my computer, I remove the Compact Flash and/or SD card and use a card reader.  Then import into Adobe Lightroom.

For updating Firmware, I put the firmware onto a media card via my computer.

On the rare occasion where I need to remotely control the camera, I use Canon's CameraConnect app on my iPhone.

Is there a specific task that you need to perform with your camera and computer?

I suggest downloading the Canon DPP software. If one sets the camera to save RAW files, then one may change the white balance after the photo has been made. I use Canon EOS utility to set the time on the camera, upgrade the firmware on the camera, and change the copyright information that the camera inserts into the meta data of photos. I use a card reader to transfer photos to a computer. The Canon software and camera manual available for download from the support page for your camera will be a newer version and I see no need for the CDROMS.
