Adjusting Blacks and Whites

While conversing with other photographers that use LightRoom, they make post processing suggestions to move the black slider or white slider.  I notice that Canon DPP4 does not have these sliders.  Will moving the far right (whites) and far left (blacks) bars in the tone curve in the Basic Image Adjustment panel accomplish the same thing?

Yes, it's the same thing, but clicking the AUTO button underneath where it says "gamma adjustment" will do it for you.
