Canon BR-E1 Wireless Remote Trigger & Canon R5 Mark ii

Knowing me I am overthinking this, but I have a Canon BR-E1 Wireless Remote Trigger that I have been using on my M50 for years and I would like to use it on the R5 Mark ii now. Do I have to have two of them or will it work with each without programming it differently and just connecting it to each through Bluetooth. Also when I look at remotes for the R5 Mark ii it (Canon BR-E1 Wireless Remote Trigger) comes up as compatible but when I look at the list of compatible cameras on the triggers page it (The Canon R5 Mark ii) is not listed, just the original R5

I am pretty sure I do not need two of them but I only think I know everything so I thought I had better ask.  Thank you for any help given.

You need to pair the BR-E1 remote with both cameras individually using the relevant menus. You can use the same remote for both.

I’m not sure what you’re asking because you’re trying to frame the answer by how you ask the question.

There are a handful of communication protocols between devices.  There are also a handful data transmission protocols.

Bluetooth uses a one-to-one communication protocol to transmit data serially.  I can take a deep dive into the weeds to explain what that means, if you want.

short answer to your question is that a Bluetooth device can communicate with only one device at a time.  Because Bluetooth uses a serial communication protocol data transfer isn’t very fast.

You will need a remote for each camera, or you will need to enable Bluetooth in only one camera at a time if you want to use one Bluetooth remote.

First off thank you for the reply.

I was wanting to know if for one if it would work with both for the reasons I listed, and two if I would have to change it each time going from one camera back to the other which from you everyone seems to be saying I will have to do.

At this time I only use one camera at a time, but when I go to photograph wild turkey this Spring I want to put the M50 into the field and cover it up so it is not seen and use it for closeups, but as I type this I realize that it would be smarter to use the cell phone to see what that camera is seeing and also to take the picture.

That is what I thought, thank you very much.

I may go that way eventually, but for right now the one will be shared between both of them. Thank you very much for the reply.
