amorros,

congratulations on the new camera and upcoming trip.

General advice on SD cards:

  1. Read the section in your camera manual on SD Cards.  If  you don’t have a detailed owners manual, download it in PDF form from usa.canon.com/support.
  2. Buy full size SD card not microSD with an adapter.
  3. Buy a name brand SD card from a reputable place.  Avoid sellers on Amazon Marktplace, eBay or Walmart Marketplace.  Best Buy, the big on line camera stores and brick and mortar stores like Staples, Office Depot, etc. are fine.
  4. Name brands like Lexar and Sandisk should be fine.
  5. Get cards that are 32gb or 64gb and labeled “XDHC”.
  6. Don’t get just one card - get a few or a pack of 3 or 4 and label them or number them with a Sharpie - 1, 2, 3, etc. or A, B, C, etc. to avoid confusion.
  7. Use the search bar at the top of the page of this forum and search SD Card recommendations.  Please read some of the discussions that come up for the reasons behind some of my suggestions.

Good luck!

It totally depends on the camera you bought. How fast it can record data (data bus).

One thing you can do is look in the advanced users guide for your camera, which can be found on the Canon support web site for your camera. It will recommend the proper memory card(s). One thing's for sure, you want to get as many as you can afford. Don't rely on just one big card (all your eggs in one basket is bad juju). I prefer multiple smaller cards like 32 or 64GB for stills and maybe 128GB for video. Also consider dumping the days shots onto a laptop and even getting an external USB storage device, like the SanDisk 2 or 4TB unit for double protection. Do not use your SD/CF/CFe cards as storage. Redundancy is the plan, especially on the "Trip of a Lifetime"

Personally, I prefer SanDisk brand and have never had a failure in all the years I've been using digital.
