Just purchased a Canon R50, it uses the same batteries as my t7i and t8i did, I am a sports photographer and I was able to shoot all day and then some with my other cameras, on a normal day of shooting I will take between 5000-6000 photos. Battery life has never been an issue since I owned the original EOS. Now with the R50 I get through maybe 1500 shots and the battery is dead. It is not the battery, my back up camera is the t7i and I can still shoot all day with that battery, it is the camera. Why is the battery life so terrible with the R50?

Because the sensor is used a lot more. In a DSLR, you use very little battery power when composing through the viewfinder. On the mirrorless, the sensor is on all the time to compose the shot. Try using live view all the time on your TXi and you will probably get the same battery life.

That should be expected. Mirrorless Cameras use more power. Consider getting extra batteries and keep charged spares in your bag!
