Why does it demand memory card?

I bought a Canon Vixia HFR300 specifically so I would not have to deal with memory cards.  It is supposed to have a complete HD.

So I fired the thing up and it immediately complains "No Memory Card".  That's the whole f-ing reason I bought the thing.

So was that just a joke about "Complete HD"?

Also I am finding the manuals incredibly bad.

Hello; thanks for posting.  The VIXIA HF R300 is a camcorder that operates exclusively off memory cards, there is no built-in memory on the VIXIA HF R300.  If you are looking for a camcorder that has an on-board internal memory, please feel free to explore the link below.  The VIXIA HF R20 has a 8GB internal flash drive, as well as a slot for a memory card if you wish to have two memory sources available. What does "Full HD" mean exactly?
