Need advice on which camcorder to buy for action sports.

Lalita

Hi

I want to buy a Canon Vixia in order to film my daughter while she's surfing. Either from beach or either on a kayak. Strictly for filming surfing with zoom.  I don't need top notch professional quality as the videos will be used for training analysis and a couple of home edited clips.

I also don't want to spend a grand on the camera either.

Which model would you recommend for the use o will be doing? Thanks y'all in advance I appreciate the help.

Greetings,

For video, I kind of like the G70 refurb.  Its under your budget too.

Refurbished VIXIA HF G70 (canon.com)

You should also consider a stills camera with video capability.  You may be surprised with the versatility it can offer when you aren't at the beach shooting surfing.

If you are going to take any camera in the ocean, I'd get a CarePak.

Thanks for the info. I'll look into the g70 refurb.

As for the stills camera I've been told the same by a few people but I am not interested in those.

Thanks again, have a beautiful day!

Hi Lalita,   I use a G40, a G50, and a G70,  also a Sony AX53.  Any of these might fill your needs.  But, you will need to be quite Cautious if using Any Cam around Water or Sand.  They don't like either.  Using some type of protective gear will likely be necessary for your Situation.

Next issue will be Steading the Cam.  On the Beach, a strong and weighted Tri-Pod will be necessary for any Zooming Videos.  Don't see much chanch of doing it from a Kayak, but the Sony AX53 would be the best possibility.  Using a seperate Shielded Monitor of 5 to 10" will likely be necessary to be able to properly Track your subject (Surfing Daughter).  Been at this for most of last 50 yrs, and still doing Fast moving Roller Derby (Kansas City Roller Warriors for last 10 yrs)  Have customized all my equipment for most all motion Sports, both in and out side. Should you desire very specific "How To" suggestions,  feel free to contact me.
