HV20 Powers off When Screen is Opened

ncm7772

Have researched this forum and others for a similar case, and have not found any help.

My HV20 will turn on and function without issues until I open the display screen.  As soon as I open the screen, the camera will power off.  The red power button will then come back on for 3-4 seconds, and power off again for 1 second.  When recording/playing with the screen closed using the small eye window, everything functions perfectly.

I've tried cleaning the head with a cleaning tape, which I didn't expect to work, and it didn't.  Later today I'm going to open everything up, maybe some moisture got into the device somehow, and if that's the case, this will dry it up.

Anyone had an experience like this?  I'm thinking that this may be the end of the road for the old girl :-(.  I bought the camera used in 2009 and it's been good to me.  While I think this might be the end, I'd like to salvage it if I can.  Any suggestions/opinions?  Thanks in advance.

Hi ncm7772!

Thank you for the post!

Based on what you are describing, I recommend that your HV20 be serviced.  To start the repair process, you'll need to complete a Repair Request on our website.

Since the camera is more than a year old, you may participate in the Canon Loyalty Program instead.  The Canon Loyalty Program option allows you to replace your current camera for a discounted fee, plus shipping.  The original non-functioning camera would then be returned to Canon USA for recycling using a prepaid shipping label that would be provided.

If you would like to take part in this option, please call our Sales Department at (800) OK CANON (800-652-2666) seven days a week, 8am to Midnight.  Let them know you have been working with online support and the Canon Loyalty Program was offered.  Be sure to have your serial number for your camera at the time of your call.
