when printing with the PIXMA MG2522 is it possible to override the color sensing feature of the printerand print in black only to preserve the color ink?

I have a recently purchased a PIXMA MG2522 . My computr is an iMac. I have tried to activate the scannerwith no success. The necessary driver has been downloaded, but the iMac keeps saying it cannot communicatewith the scanner. the MG2522 connection ...
