Hello,

I recently purchased the Canon EOS R5 and I am in need of a flash for it. Can you please recommend a Canon brand flash that is highly recommended? Thank you.

Greetings,

2 options I see which are in stock at Canon are the EL-100 and the 430EX III-RT

In addition to Rick's suggestions you could also consider the Speedlite EL-1 as it will fit on the hotshoe of your EOS R5 and offers the highest power output of the three models now suggested.

Hello, I recently got a Canon EOS R5. I am a hobbyist photographer and I don't need an expensive, fancy flash since I'm just getting started. I would like to get one that is reliable and works well. I am interested in both Canon and third-party brands. Can anyone recommend one to me? I would like one that I can use on and off of the camera. I like AA and rechargeable batteries alike. I also would prefer one that can swivel and rotate.

I don't know much about flashes so I could use some pointers on triggers too!

Thank you!

Canon branded options for your camera are…

  • Speedlite EL-1
  • Speedlite 430EX III-RT
  • Speedlite EL-100

I've listed them in order of price - high to low. All are fully compatible with your camera, and the middle option is good value with a lot of flexibility both for on-camera and off-camera flash.

I use the new Nano Godox flashtrigger with my R5 and love it. The Flashpoint R2 XPro II is my backup trigger and was the one I used before getting he new Nano trigger. Flashpoint and Godox sell the same products just with different names.

I have an EL-1 flash but use it on a boomerang L bracket as I think the EL-1 is too heavy to put on top of your camera. The EL-1 is the best hot shoe style flash I've ever used except you may have to mortgage your first born to buy it. It can recycle instantly and that's no joke.
