Canon. 550ex speed lite

Hello I have got a problem with my canon 550ex speedlite when I put the speed lite on the hotshot it want late me change the settings but when I take it off the hotshot it lets me change the setting on the speed lite. The question is the problem my 6d canon or the speed lite?

Hey there,

I believe you are referencing the "External Speedlite Control" menu selection in your EOS 6D. This menu selection is not compatible with the Speedlite 550EX because the technology was integrated into the camera after the Speedlite 550EX so the flash doesn't know how to read that communication from the body. All of the same settings should be accessible through the Speedlite's menu system though.
