I was walking a trail in a park where I'd been once before, five years ago, not really seeing much in the way of wildlife. I was going through a wooded area with a lot of undergrowth when I heard a woodpecker close by. I found it but just seeing a silhouette as the Pileated Woodpecker was between me and the sun. I took a couple of photos anyway and then she took off to another nearby tree, hopped around a couple, I could still see her but still backlit. I remembered a little clearing maybe 50 feet back the trail so i went there and luckily I got a good view and got some photos before she moved to an obscured position. The photo of the bird taking off was backlit so I pushed the exposure up. One of the photos is uncropped.
