New CanoScan Lide 400, Win 11 Home, ScanGear. Scans, but never outputs file, hangs

I have a brand new CanoScan Lide 400 on my clean, well-running Windows 11 Home (White-box) PC.  I downloaded and installed the latest "U Scan Utility", and use ScanGear to scan checks (one side at a time).  The first few uses after a reboot work great, after that, it will scan, but rather than writing the files when I close ScanGear, it does nothing, and the U Scan Utility hangs.  A reboot fixes it.  This is VERY annoying and I may return the product.  Is there a fix?  Thank You.

Once logged in, click on your CanoScan LiDE 400 and then click on the Product Support button to access your available service options.
