MF656Cdw Scanner not Recognizing Computer

I have a MF656Cdw copier/scanner/fax and I'm having difficulty getting it to communicate with my computer. I am running Windows 11 Home (version 10.0.26100) on my computer. I have tried both an USB-B to USB-A connection to my computer (using multiple different USB ports on my computer) and I've tried an Ethernet direct connection between the devices as well. I have found a USB port on the computer where the computer can recognize the scanner and run the scanner through the Microsoft Scanning App, but I cannot scan any documents using the MF Scan Utility and I cannot select my computer on the display of the printer/scanner to initiate a scan from the printer/scanner. When I try to use the MF Scan Utility or the display and scan options on the device itself it indicates that the device is unable to communicate with my computer. From the display it has an error which reads, "Connect the Computer," and from the MF Scan Utility it has an error which reads "Cannot communicate with the scanner. The cable may be disconnected, or the scanner may be turned off. Check the scanner and try again. Scanner driver will be terminated."

I have already uninstalled all drivers and software applications and reinstalled the drivers and applications. I have tried restarting my system. As I mentioned, I have tried multiple cabled connections and I have tried a wireless connection through my router.

Through all of this, I have had no issues connecting to the printer from my computer. Also, my computer is new an on my previous machine I was able to connect to the printer/scanner wirelessly and use the MF Scan Utility program with no issues, this has only been an issue on my new computer.

Where am I going wrong? Why can't I get the scanner to communicate with my computer?

Greetings,

I recommend you pick one connection method and stick with it.  Either Wireless, wired ethernet from the printer to your router or a USB connection from the printer to your computer.

The printer supports 2.4 GHz Wireless and WPA2 encryption.  If you decide to use a USB connection, you need to install the software before connecting the printer.  It will prompt you for the connection method.

Only two drivers are required.  The MF printer drivers UFR II. Print, fax with ScanGear and the MF scan utility v1.21.02.

I'm happy to walk you through setup once you tell me what connection method you're going to use.

I have committed to connecting through USB-B to the printer. I've disconnected the ethernet. This is the only method I've been able to actually connect so that on the setting menu when I pull up the devices and printers I can actually see the scanner settings. By this method I was able to actually connect to the printer through the Microsoft Scan App, but the canon software has yet to work for me.

The printer itself is still connected to my WiFi as we have other devices that connect to it to scan, but I would prefer not connecting my computer through WiFi unless I can actually get the communication to work with scanning.
