Help: Cannot connect CanoScan LiDE 300 to ASUS laptop

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone in the community here might have experienced a same issue and can help!

I have been trying to connect CanoScan LiDE 300 scanner to my laptop ASUS Zenbook A14 all day. My laptop runs on ARM driver, and it seems like this prevents me from downloading the scanner's driver and software to be installed on my laptop.

And then...somehow I got the scanner to show up under my Printer & Scanner device and was able to scan using Window Scan App but I mistakenly pressed the "remove" button manually under device. Now I cannot get the scanner connected back. My laptop does not recognize the scanner, even when the USB is connected.

If anyone has any experience with this, please let me know!

With appreciation,

Shasha

Hi Shasha! Thanks for contributing to the community. I see that you need to add your LiDE 300 to your computer after accidentally removing it.

Since your computer is using an ARM-based processor, you will not be able to install the scanner driver or software that is designed for computers that have Intel and AMD-based processors. You can try adding the printer to your computer's list of printers and scanners. How you do that depends on the version of Windows installed on your computer.

If your computer is running the latest version (Windows 11), here are the steps that you can follow:

  1. Make sure that the scanner is properly connected to a USB port on your computer.
  2. Click on the Windows symbol (normally located in the bottom bar to the left of the Search option).
  3. Click on the Settings symbol (mechanical gear/ wheel).
  4. Click on "Bluetooth & devices" in the left column of the Settings window.
  5. Click on "Printers & scanners" in the right column.
  6. If you don't already see your scanner on the list, click on the "Add device" button in the top right corner of the window.
  7. Wait for your computer to search for devices. You will see any devices connected through a USB cable or on the network appear.
  8. If you see the scanner on the list, click on the "Add device" button to the right of it and follow the screens that pop up to finish adding it.
  9. If you don't see the scanner listed, click on the "Search for devices" button below the "Refresh button" and make sure that USB or Network is selected. If it is, click on the "Refresh" button to see if the scanner pops up. If it does, click on the "Add device" button to the right of it and finish adding it to the computer.
  10. Once the scanner is added, you can close the Settings window that shows your printers & scanners.

If you are unable to add the scanner using these instructions, please check the following:

  • Make sure that the USB cable is properly connected at both ends (computer and scanner).
  • If you are using an external USB hub, please connect the cable directly to the computer instead.
  • If you have a desktop computer, please make sure that the cable is connected to a USB port on the back of the computer.
  • Make sure that the USB cable is no longer than 6 feet (maximum recommended length).
  • Do not use an adapter. Instead, use a cable that has the proper connectors at both ends.

You can also try restarting your computer while the scanner is connected to it. If your computer says that there are Windows updates available, we recommend that you update your computer during the restart. If turning the computer off and on does not help, please reply to this post with answers to the following questions:

  • What version of Windows is your computer running?
  • Were you able to access your computer's list of Printers & Scanners (Devices & Printers on older versions of Windows)?
  • Were you able to select the Add Device option within that window?
  • What is the name of the scanning app that you were using for scanning?
  • Is your computer's Windows operating system up to date?

Please feel free to attach a screenshot of the app you are using.

I hope this information helps. Thanks again.
