I have had this scanner for eons. It has and would still serve me well if Canon had released an upgrade/update for Windows 11. Now my very useful machine sits idle, and I have old slides to scan in. Does anyone know why Canon did not do an update? For a paltry sum I would have paid for the upgraded download just so I could keep using my very reliable scanner. I am not tech savvy enough to do work arounds and paying for a brand-new scanner, for no other reason than it is not compatible with Windows 11, is annoying to say the least. Does anyone know of a new scanner on the market that is comparable to the abilities and ease of use as the old Canon 8899f? Maybe if enough customers complain they might make the upgrade, please pretty please??? Thankyou - I vented. 😢

I have a CanoScan 8800F. It works beautifully in Windows 11. With the software listed for Windows 7-8.1.at Canon Support. I rescued this machine from the scrap pile at a thrift store because folks there just figured it was no good anymore for Windows 10.
Just because Canon has not tested older equipment for Windows 10 or 11, or written new drivers and apps, that does not mean it won't work with the newer OS versions. This is a case where that is absolutely true. Under the skin, Windows 11 is not that different from Windows 7, or even Vista. I've demonstrated this with numerous printers and scanners.
The same holds true for other software. I have been using Quicken 2006 since the XP days, on every Windows since then. If it "ain't broke", why "fix it"?

Greetings,
One possible reason that Canon has not continued to update software for this printer is because it's 16 or 17 years old.
It's just not possible to continue supporting hardware indefinitely. I'm sure parts for this device are no longer available either.
If you try the older drivers and they don't work for you, you can try VueScan by hamrick software.

Thank you for the response. I will have to find a techy to help me install/make use of the old versions. I tried just to see if the whole thing would install without too much know how - but it gave me another "not enough memory" ..... It's not my only problem, my computers battery is shot, and I need a techy to install a new one as my Dell doesn't have a battery compartment, the back has to be opened up.
