Canon LiDE 400 - 2 Workflows and options

AlexKnox

Hello Forum members,

I am an advanced digital photographer and retoucher who recently bought this scanner. However I can't grasp the following ambiguous sentences in the manual!

What are the actual differences between these two, with workflows:

1) Photo > Application Settings > Open with an application [e.g. Photoshop]
and
2) Photo > Application Settings > Send to an application [e.g. Photoshop]

I have tried to solve this, but so far they seem be the same.

Sincerely yours,

Hi Alex Knox! Thanks for contributing to the Canon Community. I see you want to understand the difference between "Open with an application" and "Send to an application."

The difference between the two are very subtle, especially if you already have the Photoshop application open and running on your computer. However, if you do not have Photoshop open, the "Open with an application" option will save you time. With this setting, the Scan Utility will scan the image, and then open Photoshop (or the chosen application) for you. The image will pull up as soon as Photoshop opens.

If you choose "Send to an application" and Photoshop is not open already, the Scan Utility will just send the photo to the application and have it ready for you to select. Photoshop does not open, so you will need to open it manually, and then select the photo.

That's how the two options are described and how they should work. However, if you already have Photoshop open and running on the computer, choosing "Send to an application" will likely work as fast as the "Open with an application" option. Therefore, it will look as both options do the same thing.

I hope this helps. Thanks again.
