Canon 9000f Mk 2 does not frame each picture (auto scan) on the platen. Help

I am trying to scan several photos on the Platen into separate files. I used to be able to do this from my old Windows 10 PC.  On my new Windows 11 machine, I can not.  From Canon IJ Scan Utility, I select "Auto" button and it provides a full single (8.5 x 11) page.  I select Photo button, (after I elect "auto scan" for the paper size), and get the same full single page.  I've un-installed and re-installed software and drivers several times.  I have been able to properly scan negatives, using the "Custom" button.  What do I need to do to get this auto framing to work ?

I forgot to re-install the "FAU protective sheet" in the scanner lid after scanning negatives.  Upon re-install, the device was able to frame/scan pictures.
