CanoScan LiDE 400 stuck on "Scanning" (VueScan says Transport Lock is on, but it's not)

Hi everyone,
I’m hoping a moderator can help me look into an option for a replacement or the Canon Upgrade Program. I bought a CanoScan LiDE 400 back in 2023, and it has completely stopped working.
Every time I plug it in, the scan bar runs all the way to the back near the hinge and parks there. When I try to scan anything on my Mac, it just says "Scanning" indefinitely and hangs.
I’ve tried everything to troubleshoot this:
  • I flipped it over and slid the physical lock switch back and forth a bunch of times to clear any jams, and it is definitely set to the unlocked position.
  • I bypassed my USB hubs and plugged it directly into the Mac using the original black Canon cable.
  • I reset my Mac's privacy and folder permissions.
  • I even tried testing it in VueScan to bypass the Mac drivers, and VueScan instantly gives a warning popup saying: "Make sure the locking (transport) switch is in the unlocked position"
The motor works when it first powers up, but can’t figure out where the bar is, so it gets stuck in a permanent safety loop. I’ve read on the forums here that this is a known tracking/alignment issue with this line.
Since I'm out of the standard warranty window, could a moderator please help me get this evaluated for a courtesy swap or help me get set up with the Canon Upgrade Program to trade it in?

Hi ttmaroney,

It would appear that your CanoScan LiDE 400 would require service.  You are eligible for Canon's Upgrade Program. This is for out of warranty units which have been diagnosed to require service, or for some reason are incompatible with a new or upgraded system. This option allows you a one-time opportunity to purchase a replacement product, discounted from the list price.

If you would like to take part in this option, please call Canon's Sales Department at (866) 443-8002 Monday through Saturday, 9am to 9pm. Let them know you have been working with technical support and the Canon Upgrade Program was offered.
