XF605 Date Resets Every Time

davemac

Hello! I have three XF605 camcorders, and on one of them, it resets the date and time every time I turn the camera off. Every time I start the camera, it asks me to set the date and time again. It doesn't seem to reset any of my shooting settings, at least not that I can tell so far. Anyone else ever encounter this?

Thanks!

Hi davemac,

I'm sorry to hear your date/time is resetting every time the camera is powered off. There aren't any settings that would cause that kind of behavior. Is this issue happening when a battery is left in the camera? When the camera is powered it off it is supposed to pull some power from the battery to hold onto your settings, like the date/time. If this is happening when a battery is still loaded on the camera we would recommend loading a different battery in the camera to see if the same thing happens.

If the issue is only happening with one specific battery that is a sign the battery is the cause. If this happens with every battery you try loading onto the camera that indicates there is an issue with the capacitor in the camera that should be holding your settings. If this is happening with all batteries we would recommend sending the camera in for repair.

Summed it up.

From the manual:

Built-in Backup Battery
The camera has a built-in rechargeable lithium battery to keep the date/time and other settings. The built-in
backup battery is recharged while you use the camera; however, it will be depleted completely if you do not use
the camera for about 3 months.

To recharge the built-in backup battery: Turn off the camera and attach a power source (sufficiently charged battery
or DC IN terminal). The built-in backup battery will be fully charged in approx. 24 hours

If this doesn't resolve it, the camera will require service, likely a new BU battery.
