The "tripod socket" on the bottom of my XA40 has stripped and is no longer usable. There are two small screws on the plate that holds the tripod socket to the camera, so I'm guessing (and hoping) this is a replaceable part. However, I cannot find any info on it at all, other than the Canon manual calls it a "tripod socket". Any help on where I might be able to purchase a replacement? Thanks!

Hello!
Yes, the tripod socket on your Canon XA40 is a replaceable part, but finding the exact component can be difficult as Canon doesn't typically sell these small parts directly to the public. Your best option is to check with authorized Canon repair centers or specialized third-party camera repair shops. You might also find salvaged parts from other Canon camcorders on sites like eBay, though you should confirm compatibility before buying.
