I recorded a brief test clip with the R5C set to XF-AVC YCC422 10 bit at 59.94P. No audio was recorded by the internal mics. I've shot in 8k RAW LT and internal audio recording is fine.
All of the Audio menu settings are greyed out except for Monaural Mic on p. 3 and the first three items on p. 4. These Audio menu choices are grayed out no matter what video recording settings I choose.
I'm using a dummy battery from Wooden Camera to power the R5C.
Kinda baffled. I'm new to the R5C, coming from 59 years in still photo, five years with iPhone video (Apple LOG).
Solved! Go to Solution.

Greetings,
Change the audio setting from stereo to mono and it will work. I shoot in XF-AVC 10bit 422 24p 99% of the time.

UPDATE! It turns out, "Monaural mic" was set to OFF in the audio menu. I was misled by a Google AI response that suggested "Monaural mic" meant something completely different than the camera's internal mics. Okay, I'll err on the side of caution and make some test clips to ensure that internal audio is recorded while shoot XF-AVC. But it seems that it's likely a non-issue. Possibly Google AI's stating that it's a common issue is again completely wrong, as perhaps other R5 C newcomers have made the same mistake. I apologize for the kerfuffle!

Thanks Rick. I searched the menus and couldn't find a stereo/mono setting option. ?

p.s. I found this response by PointsInFocus on YouTube to a commenter who had the same question - where are most audio options turned off (grey) in the Audio menu? (I'm guessing the R5C won't record audio (internally/externall?) when shooting at 59.94P? Of course, I'm still looking for a way to switch from stereo to mono to solve the issue of no audio being recorded in XF-AVC.
Do you have an external mic plugged into the mic jack? There are no adjustments for the internal mic (it's auto level only). Unless the camera detects an external mic, it will disable all the level settings on the first 2 pages and most of the settings on the 3rd page of the audio menu. Also the camera disables the audio settings if the currently selected recording mode doesn't support audio; for example, slow and fast motion, frame, or the interval mode.

I spent 5-6 hours trying to find a solution, but there doesn't seem to be one. Finally, Google AI shed some light when I entered the right search query. Here's the response. Looks like with AVC we are much safer shooting with an external mic. In other words, NO scratch audio from the internal mics is guaranteed to be recorded - we can only count on (?) getting scratch audio with an external mic mounted. I can only wonder why Canon hasn't fixed this behavior in a camera that's still rated as a top pro video mirrorless choice. Oh, well. Google AI says:
My query: "canon eos r5 c records audio when shooting in raw modes using the internal microphones, but it does not record audio with the internal microphones when shooting in XF-AVC modes."
Google AI's response:
The Canon EOS R5 C indeed presents inconsistent internal microphone behavior between formats; it records audio in RAW modes, but in XF-AVC, the internal mic often fails to record or remains unhelpfully active on channels 3/4. This is a widely reported issue where XF-AVC modes do not correctly utilize or disable the internal microphones. [1, 2]
