HDMI RAW Output Not Available on Canon C80 (Firmware v1.0.2.1)o

Hey Guys,

I’m reaching out regarding an issue I’m experiencing with my Canon EOS C80. I’m currently unable to enable the “HDMI RAW Output” option in the camera menu.

Here’s my setup:

  • Camera model: CanonEOSC80

  • Firmware version: 1.0.2.1

  • Recording format: XF-AVC YCC422 10-bit

  • Resolution: 3840x2160 Intra-frame

  • Frame rate: 23.98p

  • System frequency: 59.94 Hz

  • Slow & Fast Motion: OFF

  • Proxy Recording: OFF

  • HDMI cable: Certified 8K (48 Gbps) HDMI 2.1

  • External recorder: Atomos Ninja Ultra (ProRes RAW enabled and updated firmware Version 11.15.00)

I’ve ensured the Ninja Ultra is powered on before the camera, I’m using the full-size HDMI output, and I’ve tested with and without cards inserted in the camera. Despite this, the “HDMI RAW Output” option does not appear under Menu > Recording/Media Setup > Tab 2.

I’ve checked the Canon support site, and only firmware v1.0.2.1 is available. Could you please confirm the following:

  1. Is HDMI RAW Output supported in firmware 1.0.2.1?

  2. Is there a newer firmware update—public or pending—that enables this feature?

  3. Are there any additional settings, accessories, or steps required to activate HDMI RAW Output?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help!

Chris

Hi Chris, I think the simple answer is: set your frame rate to 59.94.

I have a C80, but I don't have anything to test HDMI RAW with.  However, looking at the manual, page 153, it lists the things you need to get HDMI RAW.  A few that stand out are:

  • Sensor: full frame
  • Sys frequency: 59.94 or 50.00
  • Frame rate: 59.94 or 50.00

So you might want to try that.

Hi AtticusLake,
