EOS R5 C autofocus not working in video mode on EF lenses

aanbari

Hello,

I just bought the R5c.  I own a number of EF lenses.  All my EF lenses autofocus fine on the Photo mode of the R5C but none of them autofocus in video mode.

This includes

- Canon 16-35 f2.8 III

- Canon 24-70 f4 II

- Canon 70-200 f2.8 III

- Sigma Contemporary 150-600

I have upgraded the firmware to the latest on camera.

Is there anything I can do?  Please help.

thanks,

Ammar

Greetings,

You need to have Continuous AF enabled in Cinema OS.  Be sure to install FW version 1.0.7.1 or 1.0.8.1.  This way you also get Large Focus Guide, Standard / Thick AF box, Gridlines on playback and support for reset AF point to center using Set or Joystick if progrmmed.  Also*** you can map ISO or shutter speed to the quick control dial on the back...  I use shutter angle and recommend that unless you have a specific reason not to  😉

Hello!

Which lens mount adapter are you using?

The canon Rf to EF pass through adapter

What AF points, video modes, and AF tracking modes are you using?

What are your subjects doing?  Moving or still?  How far away?  How can I reproduce your issue?

It worked.  Thank you.  Thank you thank you
It’s weird.  Coming from using the 5D mk IV for years, I thought the AF is turned on from the lens switch.

thank you everyone!

I have a T8i and I've got something on my camera called Movie Servo. If I enable that, my camera continues to autofocus. It seems to be outside of the Continuous AF function I don't know if the R5C has that or not.

Hi Steve,

Cinema OS doesn't have Movie Servo on the R5 C.  It has Manual, OneShot and Continuous.  AF behavior changes based on the mode, AF frame size and subject tracking method selected.

Hi Rick.

Thank you for your guidance.

What is Cinema OS? I've never heard of that before.

Congrats on your purchase.  The R5 C is really going to blow you away.  Besides taking great photos, its got a video powerhouse with the flip of a switch.  If you haven't watched any videos for it, check out Deaf Director (Bryan) and Josh Sattin.  Both of these content creators have the best material on getting the most from your R5 C.
