pixma pro 1 won't print when one ink tank empty

Is it normal that my pixma pro 1 wont print even a test page when Matte Black ink tank is empty? When i click print nothing happens, not a sound from the printer like it wasnt even switched on.  

If it is not normal what could be the problem/ solution to it?

The print heads are cooled by the ink. A head can be damaged if it tries to print with no ink. Did you get previous warnings that ink was running low and then that the ink has run out?
