My Canon Pro 1000 printer has suddenly started printing colours incorrectly. The colours are generally muted and particularly noticeable with blues / turquoise. Whatever compensation I make in the edit, just makes it worse. I'm on a Mac and use Lightroom. The same thing happened a couple of years ago and an OS upgrade and re-installing the driver resolved the issue. This time I've tried the following to no avail: checked ink cartridges (genuine Canon), Print head alignment, Nozzle check, monitor calibration, upgraded from Ventura to Sonoma, removed printer, deleted printer driver, reinstalled printer driver, reinstalled printer, restarted laptop - but still the print colours are incorrect. I have also spent 2 hours on the phone to Canon and had my case escalated - with no solution. The guy at Canon seemed to think there was a compatibility issue with Sonoma and that it was an Apple issue, but the problem arose when I was still on Ventura after 2 years of working perfectly, so that's not the issue with me. I'm at my wits end, so any help or advice would be greatly received. Thanks in advance.

Do you know someone else with that printer? If so you could determine if it is a local problem with your printer/computer set up or a general Canon/macOS problem.
Maybe you can get back to your Canon support folks and relay some of the info gathered.

I don't know anyone with the same printer, but as you say, I think I've gathered enough info to have another conversation with Canon Support. Many thanks once again John for your help 🙂

You could try this:

Thanks John. I'll keep it up my sleeve as a last resort 🙂

Did you ever get to the bottom of this, because I'm suffering with the exact same issue and it's infuriating!!

Hi Rick, well...I inadvertently changed the sequence in which I selected the print button the other day and to my astonishment, the print came out fine. I tested it several times and all prints were fine.
In Lightroom, rather than choosing the paper type by selecting Print Settings/Printer Options/Quality & Media/Media/Matt Photo Paper, saving the setting, closing the pop-up box, and then clicking the 'Print' button, I selected the paper type from the 'Printer' button on the bottom right - Printer/Printer Options/Quality & Media/Media Type/Matt Photo Paper, Save, then Print straight from the pop-up box remaining - not from the 'Print' button bottom right.
I still can't quite believe this simple change of sequence has solved a problem that has driven me to distraction for the past 5 months, but it's currently holding and it's been 5 days now. I haven’t yet tried reverting to the sequence I normally use, as I don’t want to risk jinxing it! Have a go and let me know how you get on - I'd be hugely interested to know whether it works for you or whether it's just a fluke.

And you have solved my problem!! Thank you so much Sally, this has been so frustrating to get to the bottom of! I've spent ages convinced it's a Mac / driver problem and it's actually an adobe problem.
I guess the Adobe software must override the settings you put in on the print job panel when you press 'print', but pay attention to whatever you input in the pop-up box. I can't actually believe such a simple fix has resolved this!! Often the way....
Thank you so much once again 🙂

Really??! I'm amazed....and delighted! Such a small thing. What I don't understand, though, is why the images still printed with incorrect colours when I printed directly from Canon's Professional Print and Layout (not as a plug-in to Lightroom) as well as from Preview. If it's the Adobe software at fault, then why wasn't it fixed in those cases?
So glad it worked for you though 👍🏼

Really - I'm so glad I found this thread, thank you!!
No idea in regard to what you've asked. I similarly don't understand why when i printed from Photoshop I have the same issue. Maybe it is something to do with Macs and the overriding of previously dictated print settings.... if you think about it, when you click the 'printer' box in lightroom, everything in that box is (I think) part of the Mac OS interface rather than the Adobe interface. Not sure!!

It’s a mystery. But for now, we are two very happy people. Long may it last 😊
