Greeitngs,

Unfortunately, can't and won't are not good problem descriptions.

We need to know what OS you are using to run the FW update, and what version FW the printer has now.

Also helpful.  What you did or tried, and the result.  Specific steps, error messages, etc.

Knowing these thing we might be able to help or guide you.

In addition to what Rick provided, run a nozzle check and tell us what firmware is currently installed.

Thank you for that. I am rinning the latest mac os. And the printer is at 1.1 firmware. I ran a usb cable to the back of the printer directly from the imac. I turned off all other imaging peripherals. I started and restarted the mac and the printer in a few different combinations. When I launch the updater it stalls it wonkt install I even left it overnight and no progress. How's that?

1.1 is the latest for you. No need for an update.

From the Canon site: "This updater will upgrade your printer's firmware to version 1.100. To perform this upgrade, a USB cable and a computer are needed. If your printer's firmware version is already 1.100 or later, the update is not necessary. To check your printer's firmware version, refer to the Update Procedure included in the downloaded file."
