PRO-300 Printer - Still says replace Red ink when I already have !

AndyR

Hello,

The Red ink cartridge and Chroma Optimiser ink cartridge were showing low on the printers display screen just before Christmas 2025.

I ordered some new cartridges and replaced the Red and Chroma Optimiser cartridges on 17th January 2026

However, the display screen still shows the "Red ink cartridge needs replacing".
I have refitted the cartridge (incase I had not seated it correctly) however, no change.

I thought it may be useful to use the printers menu to perform a Deep Clean however, I can't get passed the "Red ink cartridge needs replacing" message so I can perform the maintenance Deep Clean.

I checked on Google and was advised to hold the start/stop button in for 5 seconds however, this doesn't do anything !

I am stuck !

Any help would be appreciated to resolve the problem.

Is the red ink cartridge flashing when you center the print head? Is it an OEM cartridge?

Hi John,
Thanks for your reply.

Well as all these things reveal themselves given time..... I spoke to my brother about the problem this afternoon:

I had installed some Non - OEM cartridges and most seem to work fine however, my brother said he had done the same thing with his HP printer.

What he discovered is most of the Non - OEM cartridges work fine but not all !
He said they are very hit & miss, he believes it's often the electrical wiring within the cartridge, which can be of dubious quality.

So I have learnt my lesson !
I have ordered a new set of Canon cartridges from the Canon UK website, hopefully they will solve the problem.

I looked up Conway on Google Maps, looks like you're in New Hampshire.
It looks very nice.

I am in Lichfield Staffordshire, home of Dr. Samuel Johnson 🙂

Thanks for your support,
