PIxma pro 100. Utility says magenta is out, but pale magenta is flashing

I'm on Mac OS 10.14.5, with printer driver 16.0.5.0. Printing from Photoshop CS 6. I've had no problems for several years with color until now.

I noticed smudging and green tones in a red zone on a photo print. I tried a test print which showed only a little magenta in the block. Several cleanings and 2 deep cleanings later, the magenta block remains empty on test prints. Printer utility is now telling me magenta is empty ( it is actually brand new) but when I open the top of the printer, the only cartridge flashing is pale magenta. (also new).  All inks are in their correct slots.

Now unable to print anything as it insists I need a new magenta cartridge. Suggestions?

I asked a local tech guy if just replacing the pale magenta might work. Even though it was clearly almost full. Whaddya know, popping in a new pale magenta solved everything.

Best suggestion at this point is to call Canon 1 (800) 652-2666. It looks like your printer needs repair.

It's a bit nit-picky of me, but Canon calls the ink Photo Magenta, not pale Magenta.
