Initial installation problems, printer not responding, W10

New Pixma Pro-100. Running W10 at latest level. Initial wireless install failed to connect (with temp USB connection).  Printed head alignment OK. Subsequent USB connection install seemed to succeed, but can't print anything.  Have the USB connection direct to computer (no hub). I bring up "Diagnose and Repair Printer". It scans and finds printer (if I disconnect the USB cable it doesn't) as USB003, passes all five checks.  If I try Test Print, the job appears on the spooler list for about 20 seconds and then goes away.  Paper is in the printer, Power light is on steady and white.  If I try printing an image on paper on the rear tray, nothing.  Suggestions?

Another thing: is there any way to install the software to my G: drive instead of the default C:/ installation?

Greetings,

The behavior you describe (when the cable is disconnected) occurs when an incorrect port is specified or used for communication.  Similar to installing, selecting or telling the printer to communicate on an incorrect interface.  Can't speculate how you got there.

Either way, the interface the computer expects the printer to use is not what was installed.  Sounds like its expecting USB.  Again not there to see, so speculating.

I'd uninstall the printer and start over.  After uninstall, I'd remove the erroneous port you (or it) created during the intial install.  How do you do that?  After removing the device, set you default printer to something else.  Now open the properties for another device and check the box next to the created interface,  press delete port.  Then ok.  Now you are starting from a clean slate.

This time, ensure the device gets installed correctly.  If you are using wireless, make sure the printer is associating with your wireless router or AP.  You 'll need to use a 2.4Ghz broadcast, 5G is not supported.  Select USB if you will use a cable, and ethernet if network.

If connecting to network (wired or wireless) Confirming your device is connected to your network before installing the software will improve your chances for success.  Log into your router or AP and confirm the printer has an IP adfress.

If USB, do not connect the device to a USB port until prompted to do so by the software.

Installing to another drive.  Only possible if the installer has a "Custom" option that will allow you to specifiy a different path for install. If it doesn't, then no, you will install to C:.

Optional configuration: Includes assigning your printer with a static IP if you wish.
