Firmware Update PIXMA PRO-100 Fails

I'm attempting to upgrade my PRO-100 from firmware 1.1 to the new 1.3.  I get to the point where it says it's downloading the new version, but then craps out.  Here's the sequence of events:

I'm connected via USB.

I start the updater and click to the second page.

The white power light of the printer is on and steady.

I click the Start button and the power light begins to blink.

The app says it is preparing the download.

The app changes its message to say it is now downloading the data.

The yellow light on the Continue button immediately starts blinking.

It's not a steady blink, but something like 1 blink, pause, 3 blinks, pause, etc.

After about 15-20 seconds, the app gives up with a message stating that it can't download the data due to some unspecified error.

I have tried coming from a reset state and that doesn't help.
