Software update for PIXMA MX532 macOS 27 Golden Gate

Will Canon be updating the software for the Pixma MX532 to be compatible with MacOS 27 Golden Gate?  If the do not is the only alternative to buy a new printer to replace the perfectly good Canon printer I have now?

There is currently no confirmation from Canon regarding an update for the Pixma MX532 to be compatible with macOS 27 Golden Gate. Users are advised to check Canon's website for any announcements or updates related to their software compatibility.

Remember that the decision to update to macOS 27 is your decision. It is always possible that older equipment may not be compatible with a newer OS (macOS or Windows). As an end user you need to evaluate the benefits of an OS update (and possible loss of function for some equipment) versus keeping functioning equipment without the latest OS update.

I understand that and have turned off automatic update so I can control if I update.  This problem will not only affect my Canon printer as there are several other applications which will be affected.  I guess this is  just a cost of going with the Apple ecosystem.

Yes it is.  Getting 12 years from a printer is pretty good.  It's possible the MF and ICA driver available for Tahoe could work with Golden Gate.  As my colleagues suggested, you'll just have to evaluate the decision to upgrade.  If Canon does provide a driver, it probably won't be for several months after the OS is officially released.  One thing I rarely see a lot of people mention are backups.  Use time machine and make a backup so that you're not left without a functioning printer.  This way you can upgrade, test your printer and other applications before fully committing.

That is a horrific and irresponsible answer (even if partially true). But here's the rub... LOTS of business customers rely on MacOS and Canon... The latest OS update is almost forced for some features to continue working.  But that is irrelevant. Canon is responsible for keeping their products updated to keep compatible until EOL determination - which should include consumer notification.

Yet incompatibilities and conflicts are a regular part of the Windows ecosystem...  Apple bends over backwards giving developers like Canon all they need to easily keep compatibility (with some foundational tools that mean very little, if any, changes are necessary in most cases. Canon cobbles together garbage and hopes for the best, generally updating well after release of new OS updates.

Can you provide an example of this. I have never seen a message pop up on my MacBook that says "This feature will stop working if you don't update."

Canon has issued new software for Mac OS 26 Tahoe dated 9.13.26.  I have downloaded and installed the new Canon software, also updated to Mac OS 27 Golden Gate and install Rosetta with OS 27.  So far I am still able to print and scan successfully. Image Garden still says it will not open when Mac OS 28 comes out.
