Professional Print & Layout: How to print borderless at 11" x 17"

I am using the Professional Print & Layout for final adjustments prior to printing images edited in DxO PhotoLab v 8.  I can't get the prints to fill the entire paper size without any border.  For example, I select paper size of 11"x17" but the actual printed dimentions are far less than that.  Suggestions?  Do I have to manually adjust the Height and Width under "Size" and if so by how much?  The users guide is not very detailed.

In the dropdown list of paper sizes, what is the difference between 11x17 and 11x17 (Margin 25)?

I don't know the difference between those two.  But I can help with the borderless printing. 

If you unselect borderless you can then scroll down the right side and manually adjust the image size to fill your paper size.   This will allow you, and not the software, to actually decide how much (if any) of the image falls outside of the print area.  You can choose to have the aspect ratio maintained (again, click that box) or use any scaling you feel best. 

I often do this as I don't like the software borderless choices.

I would suggest only working with one image in the software at a time.  The software is buggy and I've run into problems when working with multiple images.

Margin 25 would be selected when using fine art paper. Fine art paper tends to be thicker and less flexible. The printer driver imposes a defined margin at the leading and trailing edge of the paper to avoid head strikes casing ink marks on the paper.

If you select a Canon fine art paper and the non-margin paper size you will generally get an error message about selection incompatibility.

All papers have a printable area that is described in the printer manual. If your image fills the printable area and you select borderless the driver will expand the image. I  don't think that happens when you have an image sized smaller than the printable area.

Thank you for the advice.  A follow-up question -- should the margin sliders on the right side be set to "0" to produce a print without borders?  It seems like positive numbers shrink the image and negative numbers enlarge the image relative to the print area.  For example, to produce a borderless 6x8 print I had to set the margin sliders to 6.2 and 8.4 which makes the image larger than the slot.  Sorry for the basic questions, but I'm just getting started with my Cannon printer and this software.

I am on travel and don't have full access at the moment.  I tried to open up an image with PPL and the application hung.  Hopefully I can try again later and get you and answer if nobody else hops on and answers first.  It is pretty common to lose some of the image due to paper size incompatibility with the aspect ratio.

My printer is the PRO-100 and it uses Canon Print Studio Pro, which is a plugin only and the predecessor to PP&L.

Here screenshots from the printer manual, showing the printable area for various paper sizes support by the PRO-100. You should be able to get a similar manual for your printer.

Borderless printing slightly increases the image size to allow printing to exceed the margin area. The amount of extension can be adjusted. You should size your image to go to the maximum printable area in at least one direction (if your aspect ratio is different than the paper aspect ratio).

John, thank you.  That clarifies a lot.  I'm using the pro-1100 so will look for the conversion factor from the printer manual.  The PPL user guide was not very helpful and I may scrap PPL.
