Pixma MX492 won't connect to network - error message printer offline

lschofield

I cannot print and I'm about to go nuts! We've been working on this for 3 days but I'm ready to buy a new printer! This has never printed! The network is fine and the PC is connected to it. I've tried rebooting the PC and the printer. This printer is set as the default. I reconfigured the printer port. What else can I do??

I'm using the wizard to connect to a LAN. Held down the WPS button of my router for 6 seconds, then hit OK on the printer. Message is just 'connecting'...

Timeout error. I've got an NVG 589 modem from ATT. Now I'm looking at their support page. I'd appreciate any help.

I am having this issue on a Lenovo laptop with Windows 10

Hi emajnps,

Let's start by checking the printer's connection to the network.

You can print out the network settings of the machine such as its IP address and SSID.

  1. Make sure that the machine is turned on.

  2. Press the Setup button.

The Setup menu screen is displayed.

  3. Use the button to select Device settings, then press the OK button.

  4. Use the button to select LAN settings, then press the OK button.

  5. Use the button to select Print LAN details, then press the OK button.
    The LAN settings print.

Much of the information will not be relevant, but the important things to look at are:

  1. Is the connection active or inactive?

  2. Does the SSID (network name) match the one the computer uses?

  3. What is the signal strength?

  4. What is the IPv4 IP address?

I look forward to your reply.

Thanks Bill S. I will get back to you this weekend with the results.

Hi Bill S, I checked the printer network configuration and found the following:

1. The connection is Inactive

2. The SSID is the correct network name.

3. The signal strength is 0% even though the printer is only 3 feet away from the router.

4. There is no IPv4 IP address.

I was able to get connected with USB cable, so my friend is able to print. I also reinstalled the most recent drivers from Canon. I did not try to connect to the wireless until you give me some ideas because I tried several times today and got the timeout message. I have a Canon printer myself (a MG 5422) and have had a similar problem but changed from the WS driver to the MP driver and that fixed the issue, even though I had no USB cable connected.

Looking forward to any ideas for getting the wireless working on the MX492. Thanks for you help.

Hi emajnps,

Thanks for that information.  It looks like the printer is not connected to the wireless network.

If the WPS setup is timing out, let's use the standard setup instead.  I have included full instructions for the standard setup HERE.
