To connect your Canon TR8620a printer to your iPhone using a cable, you can use a USB to Lightning adapter. Connect the printer to the adapter, then plug the adapter into your iPhone; however, note that direct printing from iPhone to printer via USB is not typically supported, so you may need to use Wi-Fi or other wireless methods for printing.

Thanks for the speedy reply but I’m still a bit confused. This model doesn’t have a USB port. And is it simply the case, as you imply, that iPhone to printer must be wireless?

📲 Print Wirelessly Without a Router: PIXMA TR8620a Wireless Direct Setup

Did you know you can print directly from your iPhone to your PIXMA TR8620a even without a local Wi-Fi network? This is possible using the printer's Wireless Direct function, which turns the printer into its own temporary access point.

Follow this simple, two-part guide to get connected:

Part 1: Enable Wireless Direct on Your PIXMA TR8620a

  1. Make sure your printer is powered ON.

  2. On the printer's touch screen, tap the Setup icon (it looks like a gear ⚙️ or wrench 🔧, depending on the screen).

  3. Go to Device settings ➡️ LAN settings  ➡️  Wireless Direct  ➡️  Enable/disable Wireless Direct.

  4. Select ON. A screen will display the Network Name (SSID) and Password for the printer's new direct connection.

Part 2: Connect Your iPhone and Print

  1. On your iPhone, go to Settings ➡️  Wi-Fi.

  2. Look for and select the printer's network name (SSID), which starts with "DIRECT-" (e.g., DIRECT-xxxx-TR8600series).

  3. When prompted, enter the Password shown on the printer's screen.

  4. Once connected (a checkmark appears next to the network), open the Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY app (canon.us/PrintApp) to begin printing your photos and documents!

Just about all Canon printers have a usb printer port on the back including yours,  as you can see in the image link posted below. However getting it to connect via usb to an iPhone is virtually impossible due to the fact the iphone has no direct drivers for that type of connection to a printer. Stephen's post offers the best solution.
