PIXMA MG6360 Scanner vanished with iOs upgrde

I have used my MG6360 for years as a scanner with my 2019 i3 core iMac, but after upgrading to Sequoia 15.4.1 the "Open scanner" button no longer shows up. Image capture shows no scanner available, and IJ scanner utility 2 says "Scanner is turned off. USB cable is disconnected. code 15,145,0"  but neither of these is true. If I try to scan from the device nothing happens. It's like the computer no longer sees the scanner, though I can print from computer or Airprint fine. Can anyone suggest a fix?

Are you able to use Apple's built-in Preview application? Launch Preview, and with the scanner turned on, is there an "Import from MG6360..." or similar in the File menu?

Sorry no, "Import from scanner" is greyed out on Preview.

I also tried to reinstall Canon driver etc package (mac-mg3600-1_7-mcd.dmg) but it is unable to connect to the printer, though if I ignore that step I can complete installation. It's like it fails to see the device except that it's fine when I print. Weird and frustrating!

The Canon Australia support page for the device doesn’t list any drivers for macOS newer than 10.14 in 2021.

You may be printing via the Apple AirPrint driver. You could look into VueScan by Hamrick Software. It is a paid app but it rescues may devices when OEM options aren’t available. It lets me use a film scanner on Windows 10 when vendor support ended with Windows XP.
