I just had my OS reinstalled, to the same version (Windows 10) I had before. Now, when I try to install the MG5240 device driver from the Canon Web site it says it cannot find the printer, even though it is plugged in and powered on. Yet when I go to the Windows 10 Settings->Printers tab I can see the printer, listed as disabled because there is no driver installed.
Everything was fine up until the disk crash that required reinstallation.
Solved! Go to Solution.

Greetings,
Please try the following.
Turn the printer off and unplug it from the PC.
Navigate to the Start menu > Settings > Control Panel > Device and Printers
Open the applet. Find your printer instance. Right-click and select remove device from the context menu. Once all entries for the printer are removed, restart your computer.
Next, download the correct driver for your printer. If it is a MG5420, this driver is specific to windows 10 (8bit color)

Turn the printer on - do not connect it.
Run the installer, connect the printer when prompted or during the detection process. Plug it directly into an available USB port. Do not use a hub, adapter or connection through another device.
Antivirus software has been known to interfere with some printer installations. If you are using a 3rd party application, you may want to temporarily disable it for the install.
Optional XPS Driver:
If you want the 16 bit (color) version that prints in a more even color gradient, then this driver should be used:
