Greetings,

I suggest you power off the printer and unplug it for a minute.  Plug it in and power it on.  Then perform the set up steps again.

There is nothing special about the process.  Pressing the wi-fi button merely puts the device into paring mode. Please see the instructions in this guide.  WPS, Cabless Windows or Set up with MAC are all covered.

I know this is an old post, but for anyone who came here looking for a solution to "Can't connect MG3650 printer to wi-fi", I might just have one. This solution is for installation on your laptop, not for Android or iOS. But I have info about a successful Android install at the bottom of my instructions.

I spent HOURS figuring this out and finally got it to work. My printer would not flash the Power button no matter how long or how many times I pressed the wi-fi button. A couple of things that made a huge difference for me were:

1. insert the ink cartridges before you try setting up the printer (this immediately remedied the blinking power light button).

2. Go into your router's admin settings, make sure your WLAN 2.4Ghz network is enabled and active. (If you also have 5G, you can have your laptop connected to that but still need to enable the 2.4Ghz network for the printer.)

3. On the 2.4Ghz settings page, set your "Authentication Mode" to "WPA2 PreSharedKey" (may appear as WPA2-PSK). Set your "Encryption Mode" to "AES". (No other combination of encryption). Apply / Save your updates. Exit out of your router login.

4. Download the Printer installation file from Canon to your laptop. (For Android: Google Play Store did not have the correct app in the store. I had to find a third-party APK and install that on my phone. The app you want is called "Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY". It is NOT the same as "Canon PRINT".) (Get the printer set up on your laptop before launching the app on your phone. The connection is super quick that way.)

5. When the printer installation file is downloaded to your computer, launch and follow instructions for the installation file. This video can help. The app will look for updated drivers for a minute or two. When the available printers list comes up empty, it is okay. The app will not be able to find your printer the first time it searches for it. Check the box "Printer could not be found on the list" and click Next.

6. The instructions in the Getting Started Guide worked for me from this point. I pressed the wi-fi button, the Colour print button, the wi-fi button, and the printer went into search mode. The installation completed without any further issues. Because I didn't want to 'crack open' the print cartridges, I DID NOT print a test page and instead bypassed by pretending to print the test page and cancelling it.

7. If you don't want to use the ink cartridges right away, remove them from the printer, RE-SEAL the tape over the ink dispensing area, put the ink cartridges back in their little boxes and seal them up with packing tape. Only remove them from the printer AFTER you have successfully installed the printer on your laptop. Not sure whether the app needs to be set up on the phone first as well, but considering all you went through to get to this point, why not wait to see if that's working before removing the ink. What could it hurt?

I sincerely hope this solution also works for you. The whole thing was an unbelievably painful, complex and hinky process. Sending positive vibes your way.

Jen
